Police condemn torching of house in Hlanganani

The incident occurred after a man was killed during a hit and run incident on 3 August and while preparing to bury him, the man's family claimed that some of his body parts were missing

LIMPOPO – The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has condemned violence which erupted on Monday afternoon in the Hlanganani Policing area outside Giyani.

This follows the torching of a six-roomed house and a rondavel in the Blinkwater village soon after police began conducting a second post mortem on Mbhazima James Makhubele who was killed in a hit and run on 3 August.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says Makhubele’s family complained to police that while preparing to bury him, they found that some of his body parts were missing.

“Residents then went on a rampage, attacking the family accused of being responsible for Makhubele’s death, torching their homes in the process,” Ngoepe explained.

Makhubele was killed after being knocked by a motor vehicle which failed to stop along the Blinkwater and Maphalle tarmac road.
