Do agriculture – veteran community leader

Veteran Giyani community leader and farmer, Churchil Hlayiseka says there is money to be made in agriculture.

LIMPOPO – He spoke at a career expo at IRA Thuthani Farm recently, where he told learners that because of farming, he has made great strides in life.

Hlayiseka has been farming since 1963 and said: “I started making a small garden at home but since 1965, I have been a professional farmer after acquiring a farm in Siyandhani village.”

The career expo was attended by 50 learners from Machama Secondary School in Nhlaniki village and 13 learners from Mafumani High School in Homu village, both in Giyani.

Hlayiseka said because of farming, he has built a shopping complex in Giyani. “I now have a farm in Letsitele, in Phalaborwa, and one in Moketsi,” said Hlayiseka who is both a stock and agriculture farmer.

The owner of IRA Thuthani Farm, Thuthani Rivisi, is an emerging farmer under the mentorship of Hlayiseka.

School governing body chairperson at Machema Secondary School, Mandy Baloyi, praised Rivisi for hosting the career expo and indicated that this kind of expo must be held regurlarly, so that it can encourage learners to pursue careers in agriculture.
