The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo is still awaiting a report from the prosecutor in the Baiden Scheepers case following the recent granting of R500 bail in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
Polokwane Observer directed an inquiry to NPA Limpopo Communications Manager Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi about information received regarding alleged previous convictions in the matter but she declined to provide official comment until she has received the report.
On Tuesday she indicated that she had not yet received the report.
The granting of R500 bail to Sheepers and his accomplice Lourellee Huang by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court caused quite a stir among the public and law enforcers.
During bail application on 6 September the state prosecutor indicated that Scheepers had no previous convictions and only one pending case against him.
Scheepers and Huang both appeared on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and housebreaking equipment. Scheepers simultaneously appeared on a pending case of theft of a motor vehicle. Both these cases will be heard again on 28 October.
