Lim junior fly fisherman excel at nationals

Stanford Lake College (SLC) was well represented in the Limpopo team that participated in the National Junior Fly Fishing Competition held in Barkley East recently. Of the 10 anglers chosen to represent the province, eight were SLC learners, one an exchange student at the school and the tenth member a learner from Merensky High School.
The Limpopo A-team managed to claim second place in the National competition and the B-team placed fifth. Marthinus Maritz of the A-team was declared the best individual angler in the national competition and received a gold medal and trophy. In the International competition that included anglers from the Czech Republic, Marthinus also took first place.
An additional competition between the South African Sport Anglers and Casting Confederation (Sasacc), the Protea team and the Czech team was also held. The Sassac team, of which SLC learner Jason Freestone is part, won bronze medals. The Proteas, of which Marthinus Maritz is part, claimed silvers and the Czech Republic team took the gold.
