Limpopo’s Executive Council (Exco) gave the thumbs up for MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Basikopo Makamu to establish a multi-disciplinary task team to prepare a diagnostic report dealing with service delivery and financial challenges confronting Mogalakwena Municipality that may be used to inform appropriate interventions.
The Exco further directed the Provincial Treasury to urgently commission a forensic investigation into various matters pertaining to allegations of fraud, misconduct and financial mismanagement in the municipality.
Last Thursday MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Dickson Masemola chaired the media briefing at Mowaneng in the city following the previous day’s Exco meeting and said that the new dawn is in motion and that the Provincial Government will restore the integrity of the system.
Masemola also alluded to other matters that were discussed by the Exco:
Department of Health turnaround strategy
A progress report on the turnaround strategy by the Department of Health was tabled. The turnaround strategy was developed subsequent to persistent challenges experienced by the department over the past few years.
The strategy aims to ensure effective and efficient provision of services such as primary health care, mobile clinic services, emergency services and specialist treatment for patients, among others. At the centre of this strategy is acquisition of appropriate technology that would improve laboratory services, pharmaceutical depot management and general functioning of health facilities in the province.
Recognition of traditional leaders
The Exco approved the recognition of Mohlatlego Phillip Tauatsoala as the acting senior traditional leader of the Babirwa Community.
Foster care evaluation
Exco approved the evaluation report on the Foster Care Programme.
Some of the key findings of the report include that the number of children in foster care increased from 25 000 in 2005 to 60 000 in 2014, that processing time for foster care placement has improved and that the foster child grant is a safety net for children orphaned by the scourge of HIV/AIDS.
Presidential launch of the district coordinated Development Model for Waterberg District
The model aims to address development challenges through collective and integrated planning by all three spheres of government, the private sector, civil society and organised labour. This will ensure optimal impact and tangible improvement in people’s lives.
Exco budget lekgotla
The lekgotla is scheduled for 13 November and the focus will be on the review of provincial service delivery issues, including the performance of the provincial economy, status of infrastructure delivery and the expenditure trends to date and also deliberate on the provincial priorities for the 2020/21 MTEF period.
