A reported investment scam recently doing the rounds on social media platforms disguised as the account of Premier Stan Mathabatha has compelled the provincial government to warn citizens not to fall victim to it.
Office of the Premier acting Chief Director Communication Services Mamogo Ntuli indicated in a statement that the social media post urges people to invest R3 000 for ‘greater rewards’. She further stated that although the account is profiled with Mathabatha’s photo it is not his account. It is a fake account created by mischievous people who are out to deceive and rob people of their hard earned money, Ntuli reckoned. She added that Mathabatha as servant leader of the province would never be involved in anything that could derail the developmental aspirations of the people. This act is therefore frowned upon and condemned with the contempt it deserves, Ntuli stressed. She reported that Mathabatha has called on residents to be vigilant and not fall prey to these tactics and concluded by urging people to spread the message to assist law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrator(s) to book.
