Mom from Mokopane in hospital after being shot by robber
A local resident was seriously wounded in the early hours of Monday when she spotted a suspected robber in her yard.
MOKOPANE – According to police, Magda Lombaard, a mother of three children, woke up shortly after 03:00 after hearing footsteps outside her home in Chroompark.
She peeked out a window and saw the intruder, she turned to flee and that is when the intruder shot at her through the window and the bullet hit her in her left thigh. The intruder fled the scene, a police report reads.
According to a reaction officer from Suricat Security, they received a phone call and rushed to the scene where he found Lombaard in the hallway on the floor in a pool of blood.
Neighbourhood Watch as well as emergency officers were also on the scene to assist. Lombaard had lost a lot of blood and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. She was transferred to a hospital in Polokwane shortly afterwards, where she was operated on.
Bosveld contacted her family, but at the time they did not want to comment.
Security companies in town say that there are many break-ins now with the festive season approaching. They advise residents to be attentive and prepared and should such an incident occur to stay inside their house and notify a security company, police or neighbourhood watch immediately.
