Four-year-old’s body found in shallow grave, father (35) arrested

It is believed that the father fetched the child from the mother two weeks prior to the incident.

LIMPOPO – The body of a four-year-old boy was found in a shallow grave in the yard of the property his father, a Lesotho national, was renting.
According to reports by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo, the body was discovered on Sunday, 1 December after local residents of Ngwanamatlang village spotted something which looked like a grave in the yard and questioned the father. The father attempted to flee but was chased after and caught and taken back to the yard where he was told to dig up the soil.
The already decomposed body was discovered and police were notified. The boy’s body was already taken out of the shallow grave when the police arrived and they had to assist the man who was in the clutches of the angry residents.
The man was arrested on the same day at around 19:00 and was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries he had sustained. He will appear in the Jane Furse Magistrate’s Court soon after he has recovered.
The boy’s mother was reportedly in Gauteng when the incident took place and it is believed that the father fetched the child two weeks prior to the incident.
The father allegedly suffocated the boy before he buried him in a shallow grave. Police are investigating and the motive of the attack is still unknown at this stage.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the incident and has called for police and community to join hands to fight violence perpetrated against women and children.
