High calibre firearms found in refrigerator during house raid, one arrested

The accused will appear in Lenyenye Magistrate's Court soon.

LIMPOPO – A 26-year-old person found to be in possession of firearms, rounds of ammunition and police reflector jackets was arrested in the Maake policing area outside Tzaneen during Operation Loreal (Sethunya) on Wednesday, 4 December.

According to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo the police had received a tip-off and followed the information to a house in Mokomotji village where they recovered one AK47 assault rifle, two R5 rifles, a pistol, several full magazines and a police reflector jacket in a used refrigerator.

Mojapelo added that investigations to determine whether the recovered items were used in the commission of serious crimes, including cash-in-transit heists, have commenced.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba commended all members involved in this operation for their successes and further urged the police to be relentless in ridding Limpopo of illegal firearms.

The accused will appear in Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
