POLOKWANE – Peter Mokaba Stadium became a battlefield for Taxila Secondary School learners who hoped to make the team which will represent the school at the department’s circuit athletics. The school’s inter-house athletics meet was hosted on Wednesday, 28 January and saw a few great performances in the various track and field events.
BONUS spoke to three standout learners; Kabelo Motheketlela, Zayd Chotia and Archell Legodi, who performed well on the day.
Kabelo, who took first place in the u/15 100 m, 400 m and 800 m events, said he had been running for a few years and gets great pleasure from crossing the finish line first. “I am the only runner in my family and I am well supported as they celebrate my achievements with me.” Kableo told BONUS that he hopes to go far with his running as running for the school is just a stepping stone to his dreams.
Chothia placed first in the u/17 100 m race and says running has become like breathing for him. “It is the greatest feeling to cross the finish line first. I hope to take my running further and become known nationally for my ability. I have always loved racing.”
Zayd says his biggest motivation is knowing that he makes his family extremely proud. Legodi placed first in the 100 m, 200 m and the relay and second place in long jump. “Athletics season is my favourite because I am confident that I will always do well. I am thankful to have a supportive family who has always stood behind me and motivated me to do more.”
