Driver rescued from crushed cab after truck rolls on R37 near Polokwane

The man reportedly phoned from inside the cab

LIMPOPO – A man sustained serious injuries after the truck he was driving rolled down an embankment outside Polokwane.

The incident happened on the R37 near the Lebowakgomo off-ramp on Monday afternoon.

Spokesperson for ER24, Ross Campbell, says the man was entrapped and reportedly managed to phone emergency services from inside the crushed cab of the truck.

“ER24 paramedics, the provincial emergency medical services, as well as the local fire department were on the scene just before 16:00. The man was heavily entrapped and all the services worked together to extract him from the wreckage. The man believed to be in his thirties was treated on the scene and ER24 medics transported him to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital for further treatment,” adds Campbell.

Traffic authorities and the police were on the scene. The exact cause of the incident will form part of a police investigation.
