Over 40 people arrested for non-compliance during lockdown
The arrests were made during a one-day operation which was conducted in the Moletlane, Zebediela and Elandskraal policing areas
LIMPOPO – Lockdown operations conducted on Tuesday, 21 April saw the arrests of over 40 people for non-compliance.
These operations were led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba accompanied by Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Morakaladi and the Provincial Head of DPCI Major General Jozi and included senior police officers from various provincial components and units as well as at cluster level. The operations were also joined by the SANDF and Traffic Department, reads a statement issued by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, reads a statement issued by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety.
During the operation two women, aged 72 and 75, were caught selling traditional beer (sorghum) and were arrested for selling of liquor without a license and in contravention of Disaster Management Regulations.
Ledwaba and his team also discovered dagga plants at Tsantsabela village and uprooted all of them, says Spokesperson for the department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.
Other successes include:
• The arrests of 49 people for failing to confine themselves at their residential places
• Two arrested for dealing in drugs and two charged for driving motor vehicle without valid drivers license.
He added that 18 liquor outlets and 40 shops and spaza shops were also visited and found compliant.
