MOKOPANE – The Mogalakwena Mayor, Andrina Matsemela accompanied by councillors, municipal officers, law enforcement officers and health officials have rolled out the Covid-19 screening drive at Bokwalakwala clinic in Moshate village on Monday, 20 April.
The team conducted door-to-door screening in Maroteng, Masehlaneng, Sekgakgapeng and Extension 19. Malesela Selokela, Head of Communications at the municipality, said they also visited tuck shops in the villages where some owners were not adhering to lockdown regulation.
“Some tuck shop owners were using correct santiser for themselves and fake sanitiser for customers. Tuck shops which did not comply were closed and ordered to renew their permits at the municipality while others were instructed to use the correct sanitisers and purchase face masks.”
Matsemela said: “We encourage residents to co-operate with the field workers who will be visiting their homes in villages and town to screen them.
“The number of infection cases continues to grow daily, and cooperating with field workers will assist us as government to speedily fight against the pandemic.
“During the screening process, people with symptoms will be referred to local clinics or mobile clinics for testing. People who are infected with the virus, but who have no or moderate symptoms will remain in isolation at home or at a facility provided by the government and those with severe symptoms will be transferred to hospitals.”
“We are deeply saddened to learn that our district (Waterberg) is leading all the districts with the number of residents who are Covid-19 positive and we convey our sympathy to their families and friends. and to their communities.”
The mayor appealed to residents to stay at home and leave children at home while they need or go and buy food, medicine, access social grant and any other essential provisions.
“We have noticed that some people think this disease is something that doesn’t concern them and will never affect them. Every time you violate the regulations or try to get around the rules, you are putting yourself and others at risk, and helping the virus to spread,” said Matsemela. The municipality advises residents to pay for their services during the lockdown period.
