The ‘Fresh Prince of PLK’ has a love for fine dining

Chef Sannie Chauke better known as the 'Fresh Prince of PLK' is well known for his mouth-watering dishes

POLOKANE  – What started out as a hobby to unwind, led to Chef Sannie Chauke being dubbed the ‘Fresh Prince of PLK’. Sannie is a qualified chef, with a diploma in food preparation and cooking from the Limpopo Chef Academy, and is well known in Seshego Zone 1 for his mouth-watering dishes.

Sannie told BONUS that cooking and coming up with his own dishes at home, led him to becoming a chef and he says he had no idea how it would impact his life.

“My dream is to travel the world and experience other cultures and their food and use that experience to one day open my own restaurant,” he said.

What Sannie likes most about the culinary world is that he is able to be creative in any way, whether it is creating dishes, sauces or spices, which he hopes will have an impact in the food industry.

Sannie Chauke, also known as the Fresh Prince of PLK, prepares a crunchy double beef burger.

“I was lucky to have been mentored by my role model, Tommy Hutler, who runs the Limpopo Chef Academy. He is young and vibrant and his creativity and artistry is inspiring. I have learnt a lot from him,” he boasted. Sannie loves Italian and French cuisine and says he has a love for fine dining, but nothing trumps African cuisine, which he says reflects who he is and where he is from.

“I don’t limit myself and that is why I am always open to learning more and experimenting with different dishes. I also like to fuse cuisines such as Italian and African, just to give my dishes extra flavour.”

Sannie says he does not compromise when it comes to food safety and makes sure that he constantly washes his hands, equipment and his work station before preparing food.
