Two die in ‘brutal’ mob justice attacks outside Polokwane
Both the deceased were accused of burglary and were assaulted during separate incidents
POLOKWANE – The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned two recent mob justice incidents which claimed the lives of two people. This after three people were accused of burglary and were brutally assaulted in separate incidents in and around the Seshego Policing area.
In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the first incident happened on Friday, 24 April. It is alleged the deceased, a 23-year-old man was cornered at Extention 71. During the incident the man was accused of burglary and was severely assaulted with various objects. He sustained severe injuries and was hospitalised where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The second incident happened on Saturday, 24 April. Mojapelo says the police responded to an incident where three people, aged between 22 and 25, were accused of burglary incidents in the area and were cornered at Extension 75. Two of the three accused were caught and severely assaulted. The third managed to escape.
On arrival the police found the two victims and took them to a hospital for medical treatment. One victim later succumbed to injuries sustained, adds Mojapelo.
The police are investigating two cases of murder and one of attempted murder and appeals to anyone with information about the people involved in these ‘brutal’ attacks, to contact Detective Warrant Officer Lesiba Mohlabi at 082 344 7716. No arrests have been made as yet.
