Partially burnt body of girl (14) discovered in Limpopo

The girl, from Silvermine village, had been missing since 5 May.

LIMPOPO – The body of the 14-year-old Morongwa Marakalala, who had been missing since 5 May, was discovered by community members on a hill near Driekoppies on Sunday.

According to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, an earlier search operation by the police, the K9 Unit, Search and Rescue Unit and members from the Senwabarwana Police Station assisted by the community, yielded little, but the discovery of the body was made yesterday.

The girl’s partially burnt body was found and a murder case was opened at the police at Senwabarwana in the Seshego Cluster, he confirmed in a statement.

A week ago, community members from the Silvermine village went on the rampage and set alight a 63-year-old woman, after linking her to the disappearance of the girl through witchcraft allegations.

“Thirteen suspects were consequently arrested on a charge of arson and will again appear in Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on 21 May for formal bail application,” Mojapelo said.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba instructed investigators to waste no time in hunting down the killers.

“I warn community members to desist from taking the law into their own hands and rather assist the police in the investigation,” said Ledwaba.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects, is requested to contact WO Albert Manaka at 082 414 6634, the Crime Stop number at 086 001 0111 or the nearest police station.
