Themane murder case postponed
The new trial date is set for early in the new year.
POLOKWANE – The Thoriso Themane murder trial has been postponed to Monday, 18 January 2021.
This, after the Polokwane High Court heard that one of the accused’s lawyer was unavailable due to an illness.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi confirmed the information, stating that the judge set the case to resume between 18 and 22 January 2021.
Themane’s case sparked uproar in the community after he was found murdered in Flora Park in February 2019. Seven minors and three adults were arrested in connection with his murder. One of the adult accused was acquitted after it was found that there was no evidence linking him to the murder.
Spokesperson of the Thoriso Themane foundation’s legal division, Kevin Phohotoma says they are disappointed at yet another postponement. “This case is emotionally draining, especially because the family has to spend yet another Christmas without having received justice for their son.”
He says the foundation will continue to keep tabs on the case and ensure that justice is served in the end.
Themane’s mother, Maria, says the family is unhappy with the postponement, but they remain confident that justice will be served.
