Four people die in crash near Haenertsburg

The incident happened earlier this morning and resulted in the R71 being closed for two hours.

LIMPOPO – An incident on the R71 near Haenertsburg at 06:30 this morning, claimed the lives of four people.

A hatchback and bakkie collided in the incident, according to a statement by Transport and Community Safety Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa.

“Five people were travelling in the hatchback, of which two sustained injuries and three passed away,” Maringa said.

He added that a passenger from the bakkie died while the driver and another passenger were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

“Preliminary investigation show that reckless driving was the possible cause for the accident,” the statement said.

The road was closed for two hours but has since been opened.

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, once again called on motorists to drive with caution.
