Damage to pipe affects water supply to most parts of the city

Affected areas are advised to ensure that all taps remain closed.

POLOKWANE – A 315 mm pipe has been accidentally damaged close to the level crossing on Vermikuliet Street.

Municipal Spokesperson, Thipa Selala said in a statement that the pipeline supplies water from the Sand River to the Potgieter reservoir.

“The damage will therefore affect water supply to Ladanna, Moregloed, the central business district (CBD), parts of Nirvana, parts of Seshego, Welgelegen and Westenburg,” Selala said.

Selala added that there is no estimated supply restoration time.

“A team is currently working on fixing the damage and restoring supply to the affected areas. Affected areas are advised to ensure that all taps remain closed, to avoid loss of water once supply is restored,” he concluded.

Selala urged people to report water challenges to the Municipal Water and Sanitation Call Centre at 015 023 5376/5629.
