Limpopo cops arrest 1 419 in 7 days
These arrests were made from 2 to 9 August for various crimes.
LIMPOPO – Joint operations by police in Limpopo in all five districts of the province, have led to the arrest of 1 419 people in a week.
Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said in a statement that these operations were conducted between 2 and 9 August through roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects, Covid-19 compliance monitoring, visits at shopping malls as well as stop and searches.
“These arrests include the fourth suspect responsible for the farm attack that took place in Mogwadi last week in which a couple was attacked in their farmhouse by three suspects and their properties robbed. In a seperate incident, a 46-year-old man was arrested in Mokopane for the possession of suspected stolen properties and 30 tyres were confiscated as it is believed that they were stolen from the Micromatica Company in Mokopane during a business burglary in March,” Mojapelo added.

Mojapelo said the other arrests were made for various crimes which includes rape, sexual assault, intimidation, violation of protection order, murder, attempted murder, the smuggling of illicit cigarettes, possession of suspected stolen properties and poaching.
“Some were arrested for the possession of dagga and dealing in drugs, possession of endangered species, carjackings, theft, house robberies, stock theft, public drinking, burglaries, the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as illegal immigration,” Mojapelo explained.
Items to the value of R146 464 were confiscated during these arrests and included motor vehicles, firearms and ammunition, laptops and rhino carcasses.
“Other confiscations include over R500 000 worth of illicit cigarettes and drugs,” he added.
Mojapelo said some of the suspects have already started appearing before various courts in the province.
