Daily water supply to city reduced due to plummeting Ebenezer Dam level

The Ebenezer Dam water level is quickly declining and the Polokwane Municipality says measures have been put in place to conserve the little water that is available.

LIMPOPO – The current situation at the Ebenezer Dam will have a serious impact on water supply according to a statement by Polokwane Municipality Spokesperson, Thipa Selala.

“The water level is quickly declining and the dam is running dry. The dam level was below 13% at the weekend and the situation is worsened by the unprecedented low rainfall experienced in the previous rain season,” Selala explained.

The Ebenezer scheme’s supply area consists of the city, urban areas as well as an extensive scale of rural areas.

“These areas include Mamabolo, Mankweng and the city. The latest average daily supply from this scheme has reduced from 36 mega litres per day to about 20 mega litres per day,” Selala added.

Consultations between the municipality and Lepelle Northern Water as well as the provincial and national government are ongoing.

“We will announce plans and measures to be implemented to ensure the remaining supply can sustain until the rainy season. The measures will include restrictive measures,” Selala explained.

He urged  people to limit their domestic consumption to conserve the little water supply that is available.
