‘Potentially dangerous criminal’ escapes police custody in Haenertsburg

Police are on the hunt for 21-year-old Ashley Gundani following his escape on Sunday, 30 August.

LIMPOPO – In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said police were conducting routine service at the Haenertsburg Police Station on Sunday evening when the awaiting trial prisoner escaped.

Gundani was arrested for residential burglary, rape, kidnapping and Ngoepe says he is a “potentially dangerous criminal.”

“A special task team has been activated and members have been working tirelessly to trace the suspect, with no success so far. The circumstances surrounding his escape are subject to ongoing police investigations,” he added.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Gundani assaulted a woman at her home in Haenertsburg on the eve of his escape, however, Ngoepe could not confirm this and said it will form part of investigations.

Anyone with information that can lead to Gundani’s re-arrest is urged to contact Det WO Andrew Ngamuni at 082 414 3031, the crime stop number (086 001 0111) or their nearest police station.
