Two men, aged 34 and 35, stole more than R500 000 from security trucks in and around the city.

POLOKWANE – Boitumelo Daniel Aphane (34) and Solly Solomon Mosala Monama (35) are expected to appear in the Polokwane High Court on 5 October for sentencing.

Aphane and Monama were convicted for robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder, unlawful possession of ammunition, pointing of a firearm and unlawful possession of explosives by the Polokwane High Court today, according to the regional Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.

Malabi-Dzhangi said the accused targeted G4S security staff when they would collect money around the city.

“They would disarm and shoot the complainants. The court heard that the first incident happened on 20 September 2017 at the KFC Seshego Circle Centre, the second on 23 September 2017 at a Total filling station in Polokwane, the third on 26 September 2017 at a Shell filling station Mankweng and the fourth on 10 October 2017 at Elegant Fuel garage. On 2 February 2018, they bombed an SBV bakkie and shot two people before taking two canisters with an undisclosed amount of money at Khujwana village.”

The duo are said to have stolen more than R500 000 from the trucks, according to Malabi-Dzhangi.

“Aphane was sentenced in a separate matter on 6 August following various foiled cash in transit heist offences committed around the Mokopane CBD,” she added.
