Mokopane father and twins hospitalised after house fire
The father and his sons sustained severe burn wounds during a fire at their home on Thursday evening.

MOKOPANE – A family of six are left with nothing after their home in the Planknek area, just outside Mokopane, burnt down on Thursday evening, 3 September. The father and 9-year-old twin boys sustained burn wounds and were transported to the Voortrekker Hospital for medical treatment, confirmed Louis Badenhorst, volunteer medic and member of the AfriForum neighbourhood watch.
The mother and two daughters luckily escaped, unharmed and were treated for smoke inhalation on the scene.
According to Stefan Steenkamp, a voluntary firefighter, the members of the Mokopane Fire Brigade as well as several volunteers struggled for around an hour to extinguish the flames. “What I could see through the smoke was that everything in the house was damaged.”
The owner of the property, Tommy York, confirmed to Bosveld that the family lost everything in the blaze. “The family only has the few items left that were hanging on the washing line at the time.”
He added that the father and one child sustained third degree burns and need urgent attention. “The family does not have a medical aid and the father and son need to be transported to a burn unit as soon as possible.”
York further thanked the neighbors who assisted to bring the blaze under control.
On behalf of the family, the SAVF appeals to the public for assistance.
