EFF threaten to close 880 Clicks stores following ‘racist ad’
The EFF will force the stores to close their doors for five days.
POLOKWANE – Eff members will on Monday forcibly close 880 Clicks stores in South Africa, one being Clicks store at Mall of the North, following an online advert which the party said ‘dehumanised black people’ .
The advertisement depicted natural black hair as dry and damaged in comparison to white hair that is described as normal, fine and flat.

In a statement the party called the advert a ‘racist act’ that represents black people as abnormal and damaged. “The characterisation in the advert is the founding stone of anti-black racism and the EFF will not tolerate it.”
Clicks has since issued an apology and removed the offending images from the social media. In the statement they said the images go against everything the group believes in. “We do not condone racism and we are strong advocates of natural hair. We are deeply sorry and will put in place stricter measures on our website,” the statement read.
We have made a mistake and sincerely apologise for letting you down. We recognise we have a role to play in creating a more diverse and inclusive S.A, starting with our website content. We know we need to do better, and commit to ensuring our content better reflects this value.

The EFF, however called this apology condescending and said it lacked any remorse for what they called a ‘racist act’. On Sunday the party took to social media to mobilise their members to enforce the closure of 880 clicks stores in South Africa.
In a statement the party stated that the stores will be forced to close their doors from Monday, 7 September to Friday, 11 September.
