Awaiting-trial prisoners escape from police cells in Limpopo

The police have launched a manhunt for two of three men who escaped from the police cells at the Zaaiplaas Police Station outside Groblersdal.

LIMPOPO – Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngeope says the trio escaped on Saturday evening, while the police were busy with routine services in the cells.

“The members were alerted and pursued the escapees and subsequently managed to re-arrest one man.” The remaining escapees have been identified as Mahlatse David Sithole (32) who was arrested for rape and Vusi John Mabona (33) who was arrested for murder and rape.

Ngoepe says the circumstances surrounding their escape is still being investigated and appeals to anyone with information that can lead to their arrest, to contact Detective WO Mhletshwa Shabangu at 082 303 9894.

“A manhunt for the two remaining escapees is still underway and police investigations still continue,” he concludes.
