Murder accused admits to strangling Mankweng intern, Shongile Nkwashu
A statement which was read out to the court detailed that the accused, Ntiyiso Xilumane, had travelled to the deceased's workplace on 17 January.
POLOKWANE – The former boyfriend of murdered, Shongile Pretty Nkhwashu (24), pleaded guilty to her murder on Monday, 14 September, in the Limpopo High Court.
The Regional Spokesperson of the NPA in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said a statement which was read out to the court, detailed that the accused had travelled to the deceased’s workplace on 17 January. An argument ensued and he throttled her to death.
“The state asserts that the accused had pre-planned this murder and he is due to appear again in the same court today. Xilumane remains in custody,” she said.
Nkhwashu’s body was was discovered in her flat at the doctor’s residence of the Mankweng Hospital on 19 January. She was a medical intern.
On the day, hospital management was alerted to a bad smell coming out of one of the rooms and upon closer inspection, one was allegedly found locked from the outside. The police were then called and on arrival, the door was then broken down. The deceased was found lying on her bed and in the early stages of decomposition.
Ntiyiso Xilumane (26), from Dzumeri in Giyani, was arrested a day later on a count of murder and of robbery with aggravating circumstances. He first appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on 22 January and was remanded in custody.
