[VIDEO] Chaos erupts as Mokopane cops evict illegal occupants

MOKOPANE – The police in Mokopane had to use rubber bullets and teargas to dispurse villagers who occupied Extension 14, this morning.

The people had illegally occupied the land on which they have been building shacks since 2018. The villagers told Bosveld that they had been expecting the police from Friday, however, a team was only dispatched today to dismantle their shacks after a notice of eviction was received.

Confrontation with the police ensued and some villagers began throwing stones, while others dismantled their shacks to avoid conflict.

The villagers claim they did not receive notice that they should evict the area and their court application to get permission to stay on the land was struck from the roll on 27 July.
