Limpopo: Farm employee drowns after boat sinks

It is alleged the man was fixing a reservoir pipeline in a dam, when the incident occurred.

LIMPOPO – The police have opened an inquest following the drowning of 32-year-old foreign national on a farm in the Tshamutumbu area on Friday.

The deceased, who is an employee on a farm which belongs to a fresh produce company, drowned when the boat he was on sank.

“It is alleged the deceased, together with other employees, were repairing a reservoir pipeline in a local dam, when their boat unexpectedly started to sink. His colleagues managed to swim safely to the shore, unfortunately, he was not able to rescue himself and subsequently drowned,” said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Mamphaswa Seabi.

Police were notified and SAPS Search and Rescue divers retrieved his body from the dam.
