Police clerk arrested after allegedly bribing senior official for a promotion
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba says the police are determined to fight against any form of corruption, even within the Police Service.
LIMPOPO – A 50-year-old female administration clerk attached to the Ritavi Police Station, has been served with a notice of suspension after she was arrested on charges related to corruption. She reportedly offered a bribe to a senior official in order to get a promotion within the service, according to a Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.
A female Major General, who serves as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner at the provincial office, played and active part in her arrest. Mojapelo explained: “It is alleged the clerk had sent text messages to the senior official , offering to pay R5 000 bribe in exchange for a promotion related to recently advertised posts within the service. The accused was so determined to bribe her way to the higher post, that she drove all the way from the Mopani District to Mankweng on Saturday, 10 October to hand over money. After handing over the money she was arrested on charges related to corruption.”
He added that the case was transferred to the Provincial Anti Corruption Unit. The accused appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday 12 October 2020 and was granted bail of R1000.00.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has hailed the action taken by his deputy. “The decisive action that were taken by the General is highly commendable.” Ledwaba said that corruption committed by any employee of the South African Police Service at any level, requires immediate and decisive action against the perpetrator(s) as it has the potential of damaging the reputation of the service if left unattended.
The accused is expected to re-appear in the same court on 18 November.
