POLOKWANE – The ongoing water supply challenges on the Ebenezer supply line will continue for the foreseeable future as the dam has experienced a significant drop in levels since September.

The Polokwane Municipality’s Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, revealed this information in a statement, urging the public to use water sparingly.

“Reservoir levels are currently low and affects areas that are uphill in the city, Seshego and Mankweng. They are experiencing ongoing water shortages or low pressure as a result of less water supply that the municipality receives from sources at the Ebenezer supply line,” Selala explained.

Parts of the city affected include Bendor, Ster Park, Flora Park, Capricorn, Nirvana, Westernburg and surrounding areas.

“Extensions [impacted by the shortage] include Ext 75, 71, 76 and Legae La Batho. In Seshego, parts of zone 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 are also affected, and the rural areas are also hard hit by the current water situation,” he added.

Selala noted that the municipality has received complaints about water tankers not being well coordinated and said, working in-tandem with ward councillors, efforts have been taken to resolve the issue.

“Water tankers will continue to provide water supply to all areas experiencing shortages. In an effort to lessen the impact of shortages, the municipality is implementing measures such as closing all reservoirs outlets at night in order to accumulate water overnight. Flow to low areas is also being reduced,” Selala said.
