Faith Foundation hopes to bring change

A group of friends from Polokwane teamed up to bring change to underprivileged communities.

They are doing this through a non-profit organisation, Faith Foundation which was founded by Kristen Faith Tomes in 2018. She was later joined by Khethelo Ngcobo, Tlou Phukubje, Aldoreign Tomes, Masindi Serote, Nkanyiso Mokoena, Tim Tomes and Michelle Bessit who share a common desire to do good. “Our target is the youth as they are the future. We need to create good leaders,” said Masindi Serote, spokesperson of the organisation.

Since it was founded, the organisation has done sanitary pad drives, fun days with orphanages and underprivileged schools, provided self-defence classes and a tin food drive. They also run an adopt a sister/brother initiative. They have recorded a documentary series called Woman in General (WIG) and their first video was titled ‘A woman’s perspective.’ “We have accomplished women to join us in conversation about their journeys and also guide young girls. It is a safe platform for growth in our community, especially for young girls,” Serote explained.

Their main challenge thus far has been to reach as many communities as possible. At present, some of the money for donations comes from their own pockets which is not enough to cover all the things they would like do. The highlight of the foundation was a Christmas fun day that they hosted at St Mary’s Orphanage in December last year. Faith Foundation is hosting a book drive and they ask for any book donations that will go towards a mini library. “With the world changing and everything being digital, underprivileged schools don’t have the luxury of fast internet and that is why we find books as an alternative for these schools,” she said.

They are accepting books that are suitable for Gr 4 to 12 learners and university students, these can be textbooks, learner guides, work books, novels and poetry books. The collection of books will continue through the month of February and the libraries will be launched later on across the province. Book donors can contact Faith Foundation at 067 608 2253 or e-mail ff.queries@gmail.com. Visit their Instagram @faithfoundation18 to see more of the work that they’re doing.
