Show a little TLC to the kids

Show you care and bring a little TLC to the lives of the young patients and their caregivers in the The Tough Living with Cancer ward by donating a few necessities.

POLOKWANE – At the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital there is a brightly painted ward filled with sick children, all with some variety of cancer.

The ward is known as the Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) ward. Apart from treating the children, the ward also offers in-house accommodation for the parents, guardians, and caregivers of these children. Most of the children in the ward are not from Polokwane, but from rural areas all across Limpopo. Most of the caregivers have little to none personal items and the ward depends on toiletries, blankets and even clothes as donations.

Cherese Botha, who’s child, Leo, suffered from cancer a few years ago, decided to get actively involved in raising these necessities. “The need in Polokwane is big. People come from very poor circumstances. We had a mother, who brought her child in, and did not even have a bar of soap with her. We often have food parcels that we hand out to the family when they go home so they can feed the rest of the family as well.

“Due to the expensive cancer treatment and transport involved, many families affected by cancer struggle to provide even the basic necessities.”
