POLOKWANE – Momentum Consult’s Flora Park George Mahlakgane branch recently showered clients with a lavish event hosted at Mekete Boutique and Lifestyle.

With the theme ‘Black with a Touch of Red’, guests were spoilt for choice at the variety of exquisite dishes and cocktails on 24 June. The event was hosted to show appreciation for the branch’s loyal clients who have been with them since 2017.

Mahlakgane explained that when he opened his own branch, he received overwhelming support from clients he has worked with over his 20-year career and, in the three-and-a-half years that he has been a franchisee, he has created employment for nine women. When you employ women, the community benefits because they nurture naturally and they have made a tremendous contribution to the business. We are mentoring each one of them to become leaders in their own right,” he said.

The franchise has grown in leaps and bounds and has been recognised as the number one Momentum Consult franchise in the province. Nationally, Momentum Consult Flora Park ranks in the top five in the short-term insurance space and is the only black-owned company.

“This is because of our clients’ support. There have been people who have contributed a lot. I would also like to thank my mom and my family who have been there since I started this journey. I want to thank everyone who has been there from the start,” said Mahlakgane.

His brother, Jazzman Mahlakgane, thanked everyone for the support that they have shown.

“George never stops talking about his clients and he knows each and everyone of you individually,” he said.

Lucienne Lawrence, Regional Manager at Santam Insurance shared that he met George many years ago and that his first impression was wonder at what he was still doing at a bank with his potential.

“He had the potential to expand himself and be a brand that people can buy into,” he said.

The CIC of the EFF, Julius Malema, has been a client of Mahlakgane for many years and said there was a time when people threatened to burn down his grandmother’s house in celebration of his expulsion as the president of the ANC Youth League.

Malema explained that Mahlakgane went there without his knowledge and did an inventory around the house and told him he had been insured. He looks after us without us knowing that he has an interest in our lives and our well-being. He’s a broker who knows what is happening and assesses the risks without you knowing that he is watching over you and looking after your interests,” he said.

He also urged clients to empower Mahlakgane so that he can continue to empower others, particularly the women who work for him.

“The market is big enough, go out there and make money and employ people. It is possible,” he said.
