EH Hassim helps to fight hunger

“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it,” is a quote by the late president, Nelson Mandela.

POLOKWANE – In the week prior to Madiba’s would-be 103rd birthday (July 18) this year, the country saw unrest which put even more pressure on those who already had to fight hunger and the loss of livelihood caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. As a company, EH Hassim Hardware strives to make a difference in their community and heeded the call to numerous requests of donations and assistance they received, in order to assist as many families as possible with essentials.

They believe it is in their hands to make the province a better place to live in.

EH Hassim joined hands with various organisations to make a difference in three communities, in celebration of Mandela Day.

The EH Hassim team, Mrs Universe Africa semi-finalist Thema Kgomo and the Mapelo Mashishi Foundation visited residents of Ga-Matlala, Dibeng on July 18.

Everyone was welcomed in a celebration that was fit for any birthday, as sounds of singing could be heard for miles and smiles could be seen for days.

“Their joy made the turmoil of the prior week disappear and to see the joy on their faces really brought home why we do what we do,” said EH Hassim marketing manager Sheralyn Janse van Rensburg.

The EH Hassim team partnered with the Get Well Charity Organisation of Lebowakgomo on July 20 to help the communities of Lebowakgomo.

They closed off their week of donations on July 23 when they assisted the Tsebo Multipurpose Centre, which provides residents in the greater Ga-Maraba area with a drop-in centre, soup kitchen and old age centre.

EH Hassim Hardware managed to donate 1 180kg of maize meal, 210kg of potatoes, 30 cabbages, 40kg of dry beans, 380 tins of Pilchards, 260 tins of beans, 130kg of soya mince, 2 60l cooking oil, 60 packs of sanitary towels, 60 bars of soap, 130kg of sugar, 20kg of peanut butter, 800 tea bags and 40 buckets over the week.

The team and EH Hassim were able to put smiles on the faces of at least 95 families with the hope of sustaining them for at least a month.

“We as a company believe that the spirit of Nelson Mandela and the 67 minutes for Mandela Day should not only be celebrated on the 18th of July each year but should be done in the spirit of giving. We believe the gift of giving is more valuable than the gift of receiving, be it through knowledge, time or industry. It is with this that we make it our mission to serve communities as much as we can throughout the year, whether this is through our time, knowledge, product or donation.”
