Jabez learners surprise senior citizens with hot meal

Jabez Principal Elana Erasmus says the learners embraced the Christian values of servanthood through the exercise.

POLOKWANE – Gr 10 learners from Jabez Christian Academy recently surprised residents of Our Home/Ons Tuiste when they delivered 120 portions of freshly prepared soup at the institution.

The learners took the opportunity to enquire about the well-being of the residents who joined the queue to receive their nourishment in their own mugs.

Jabez Principal Elana Erasmus explained that the exercise served a dual purpose.

“As part of the life orientation curriculum, learners are required to perform community service and as such, Gr 10 learners volunteered to serve soup at Ons Tuiste.

“As a Christian school we also embrace the Christian values of servanthood,” Erasmus said and added that the learners enjoyed reaching out and serving the more vulnerable members in the community.

Our Home/Ons Tuiste resident Lena van der Ryst thanked Jabez deputy principal Bruce Phillips for the soup and said it is heart-warming that the youth still care for the elderly.
