Back to school tips for teachers

In preparation for the academic year ahead, Teacher Vision advises teachers to have a clear set of rules for learners to adhere to.

POLOKWANE – With the holiday season being over, the back-to-school period can be rather overwhelming not only for learners but for teachers too.

After an extended period away from work, the month of January can be seen as a time to regain one’s focus and get your bearings in order.

It is fortunate that teachers return to the classroom before learners do which gives them an opportunity to prepare themselves for the academic year that lays ahead of them.

According to Teacher Vision, due to the overwhelming workload teachers have despite the grade they teach, it is important that teachers get a head start with preparations.

Even though the workload can be overwhelming, it is important that teachers ensure that their wellbeing is taken care of.

Taking care of one’s wellbeing includes getting enough sleep and eating well as teachers are the most valuable resource available to learners for the entire year.

In preparation for the academic year ahead, Teacher Vision advises teachers to have a clear set of rules for learners to adhere to, so that they know what is expected of them.

Teachers should also create a class routine which can vary from teacher to teacher. Whether its starting the day with a short prayer or the marking of a class register and ending the day with tiding the classroom before everyone is dismissed, to have a routine is important.

Teachers are also advised to create a detailed lesson plan that can be can used weekly, this also allows for some form of structure and provides a vision of what needs to be done and when.

Although this may help, be prepared for a bumpy ride. Getting ahead of the little details creates an efficient bumpy ride.
