POLOKWANE – Carissa Erasmus finds joy in working with Gr Rs. She is a Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) Gr R teacher and joined the team at the beginning of this year.
She started her career in 2015 as an assistant teacher while studying towards a teaching qualification. Over the years, she has taught foundation phase and this year, she has a new home with the Gr Rs.
Erasmus explained that there is no greater pleasure than teaching the younger ones, “as they are a breath of fresh air. Every day is different and unpredictable because we work with such innocent souls. They give you new breath and light every day. Those little hands will touch your heart and the most important thing is to make a difference in their lives”.
Her favourite part of her day, she says, is circle time in the mornings where learners get a chance to share how their afternoons and evenings went.
“During this time, we read the Bible as well as praise and worship together,” she said.
She added that the one thing she constantly reminds her learners of is that they should believe in themselves, regardless of their size as they become who they believe they are, “they should never doubt themselves”.
