Flora Park Comprehensive’s debate team bag silver at Mayor’s Cup

POLOKWANE – Flora Park Comprehensive High School learners came second in the Polokwane Mayor’s Cup 2023, of which the final was recently held at the Polokwane City Library.
The senior team competed against Millenium College in the second division final under the following topic: ‘The Polokwane Municipality has a water deficit.
The municipality supplies 59 of the required 99 megalitres a day to satisfy the needs of residents in all 45 wards. It is facing a water crisis because it cannot meet the rest of its responsibility in terms of augmenting water provision and distribution – the municipality should privatise the water department.’
Mmotie Mabotja, the debating coach said it was exciting to have reached the final.
“The learners worked hard and put in a lot of work and although we would have liked to win, we are happy with the result,” she said.
They are looking forward to taking part in more debates and have recruited more debaters to strengthen their team.
“We are looking forward to the new additions to bring a fresh perspective and mindset to the team,” Mabotja said.
