Woman in labour left stranded and forced to walk to Seshego Hospital
The woman gave birth to a baby who weighed 1.6kg and has since been admitted to the neonatal unit.
POLOKWANE – Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba requested the public to be extra courteous when it comes to heavily pregnant women, especially those who are in labour.
Her plea follows a situation over the weekend when a woman was left stranded and had to walk to the Seshego Hospital.

The woman, whose identity is withheld, had gone into labour by this time, and was discovered by security officers at the hospital, as she asked for help.
Acting departmental spokesperson, Derick Kganyago, confirmed the incident, saying the security officer responded by alerting nurses in the casualty ward, who then rushed to the scene and assisted with the final stages of delivery.
Mother and baby were admitted for further assessment.
The infant who weighed 1.6kg at birth, has since been admitted to the neonatal unit.
“We also appeal to pregnant women to monitor themselves. Do not wait until you can no longer handle the contractions before seeking help. Attend ante-natal clinics where you will be advised on the expected date of delivery, transport to the facility and the relevant facility. This is done to protect both the mother and the baby,” the MEC said.
