Weather service issues disruptive rain warning for Polokwane

A level 2 warning issued by the South African Weather Service means the likelihood of disruptive rain is high but its impact minor.

POLOWKANE – The city of Polokwane is currently under a Level 2 warning for disruptive rain.

The warning, issued by the South African Weather Service, is effective between 17:04 this afternoon and 23:59 this evening (November 13).

Heavy downpours were experienced in the early hours of this morning with more expected this afternoon.

A level 2 warning means the likelihood of disruptive rain is high but its impact minor.

However, the weather service still warns of localised flooding of susceptible informal settlements or roads, low lying areas and bridges.

It also warns of difficult driving conditions due to wet roads or pooling of water on roads with possible minor vehicle accidents affecting night drivers as well as difficult driving conditions on dirt roads.

“If possible stay indoors and off the roads, avoid crossing flooded roads and swollen streams. Where rising water levels are observed, move to high ground,” the weather service advises.

More rain is expected in Polokwane this coming week, however, temperatures are expected to improve from Tuesday (November 15) onwards.
