Nurse opens the first clinic of its kind in Polokwane

Nurse Jane Mohononi saw the pain her daughter was in and her nursing instinct kicked in to help all Polokwane residents with the same problem.

POLOKWANE – Nurse Jane Mohononi (41) was inspired by her daughter, Heritage (23), to open a clinic that is the first of its kind in Polokwane.

“My daughter was very ill for a long time and went through various treatments which did not deliver the desired results, if any at all. After years of physical pain she was finally diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome [IBS],” Mohononi said.

In June she launched a brand-new colon clinic in Sterpark to help patients who suffer from the same syndrome, called Colon Health Polokwane Clinic.

“I decided on the name to send a clear message to the public about what our clinic does, which is to promote colon health and to treat patients with colon-related diseases.”

She told Polokwane Observer they spent a lot of time in search for a colon health clinic in Polokwane last year to assist her daughter, but could not find one.

“We had to travel all the way to Gauteng so that Heritage could receive proper treatment. When I saw the results of colon hydrotherapy, my nursing instinct of wanting to help people kicked in. I decided to open a clinic in Polokwane. Since we opened, we helped residents who struggle with IBS and many other bowel diseases. Now they do not have to travel long distances like we did for help,” she explained.

Mohononi obtained her nursing qualification from Lechabile Nursing College and added colon hydrotherapy is a completely natural treatment she uses in her clinic.

“The treatment took many forms over the centuries but the essence of the therapy remained the same; a gentle washout of the colon or large intestine with the use of warm water to remove waste matter, rehydrate and exercise the bowel,” she said.

She explained the normal transit time for food is around 24 hours.

“You should move your bowels at least three times a day. Problems occur when the transit time is either too fast, causing diarrhoea, or too slow, which causes constipation or bloating. This can be caused by poor diet, disease or infections, as well as by lifestyle factors such as lack of exercise, irregular eating and missing meals. Colonics are a great way to encourage your colon to work normally again. The colon as an organ plays a huge role in our bodies as it releases 70-80% of the immune system, which can be compromised if the colon is not taken care of. It is as they say: All sicknesses start from the colon and death begins in the colon.”
