Horror N1 collison: Government to assist family with funeral

Nine members of the Sethe family were killed in a head-on collision on the N1 North on Friday (November 11).

POLOKWANE – The Department of Transport and Community Safety has confirmed that government will asssist the Sethe family with funeral arrangements following the death of several members on the N1 North on Friday (November 11).

Nine members of the family were travelling from Diepsloot in Gauteng to attend a family wedding in Nobody, outside Polokwane when the collision occured.

Four children, one male driver and four females were killed.

Transport spokesperson Mafenya Lediga said the driver of a 10-seater vehicle lost control as a result of a burst tyre and collided head-on with a truck travelling south.

“A case of culpable homicide was opened at the Mookgophong Police Station as a result,” a statement read.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Development has also dispatched teams of social workers to provide post-traumatic counselling to the affected family.
