LIMPOPO – Several families of Tshiungani, including Lwaphungu High School in Niani under the Musina Municipality, were left homeless on November 9 after strong winds and heavy rain damaged their houses and uprooted trees.
Several homes collapsed, rooftops were blown off, trees were uprooted and scattered across the villages.

Leah Mudzielwana’s four-roomed house was severely damaged.
“The walls started to shake, the roof rattled and then the sheets were blown off.”
She said that her house’s corrugated roof was also blown off by the strong wind. She is now staying with neighbours.
According to Michael Tshivhuyahuvhi, a wall in his house fell over and the downpours left everyone taking cover.
“All my furniture, blankets and groceries were damaged and I do not have money to replace or repair it. I did not sustain any major injuries, but I am extremely shocked.”
The spokesperson of the Vhembe District Municipality, Matodzi Ralushai promised to help the affected families and communities, through the municipality’s disaster fund.
“Disaster management officials are assessing the damage and will compile a report to determine the type of assistance needed. We will also assist the victims by giving out blankets and tents for immediate help,” said Ralushai.
