The SPCA in Polokwane needs your help ahead of the festive season
The manager of the SPCA Polokwane, Selma Landman says they cannot take care of all of the animals in their care without the support of the community.
POLOKWANE – While everyone prepares for the festive season, the SPCA also prepare to accept unwanted pets and those scared of fireworks.
The SPCA advocates for five freedoms for every animal which includes freedom from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain, injury and disease, freedom to express natural behaviour and freedom from fear and disrtress.
The SPCA Polokwane manager Selma Landman says they cannot take care of all the animals in their care without the support of the community.
“We are here for the people, by the people,” she told the Polokwane Review-Observer.
Landman said the Capricorn area that they cover is massive and fuel prices add extra stress because they never decline the collection of any animal even when the callers/owners cannot contribute towards fuel.
She is calling on the community to assist with donations, with fuel being one of them as well as feed for the animals.
“Out biggest need is dogfood. Not only are there dogs and cats, but donkeys, horses and cattle. Fuel is also our one of our biggest operating expenses. Any contribution towards fuel will make life easier,” she said.
The SPCA Polokwane’s wishlist includes:
• Dogfood.
• Horsefeed.
• Cattle feed.
• Fuel assistance.
• Vehicle maintenance, tyres, services, wear and tear.
• Maintenance assistance for the fences, poles, wires, cement and so forth.
“If you are not sure what to donate you can also make a monetary donation to help us meet our needs. We want to reach as many animals as possible to improve their lives, educate their owners and save and rescue neglected animals. All we can ask is to donate and report. Be the voice to the voiceless.”
Landman also thanked the community.
“We are blessed with people who assist and help whenever they can. Any contribution is highly valued. Even sharing posts on Facebook or reporting animals in need is appreciated by us. Caring is sharing.”
