Christmas gifts and clothes for 90 less fortunate children
Members of the Methodists Church Women's Auxiliary Wesley Polokwane branch visited Reagona and Mahlahlalane Drop-in centres to spread some cheer.
POLOKWANE – With only a few weeks to go before Christmas, Methodists Church Women’s Auxiliary Wesley branch Polokwane recently handed over Christmas gifts to 90 less fortunate children from Reagona and Mahlahlalane Drop-in centres, as well as to five families.
The organisation’s treasurer, Dr Moshibudi Phasha, said the beneficiaries received Christmas gifts and food parcels.
“Our target was 40 children, but we have exceeded the number because we saw the need that there are many children who need our assistance. We came up with the initiative after seeing the need at drop-in centres that we have been visiting within our communities. Some of them don’t really celebrate Christmas, so we saw it fit to at least do something from our side to put a smile on their faces. We only started with the initiative this year and we plan to do it annually,” said Phasha.
Methodists Church Women’s Auxiliary Wesley branch Polokwane president Mokgadi Sephuma said the initiative went accordingly.
“The initiative was planned and took us some time to implement. If we started the initiative at the beginning of the year we would have dressed more children. Our wish is to dress as many children as possible. We surely believe that with the support we get from the community, we will be able to assist more children,” said Sephuma.
Reagona Drop-in centre co-ordinator Mamodike Maredi thanked the organisation for their generous gesture.
“We are happy that Methodists Church Women’s Auxiliary Wesley branch Polokwane came on board to dress a child this Christmas. Most of the children are part of child-headed families and without any help, they couldn’t afford Christmas gifts,” said Maredi.
