Limpopo boy hospitalised after being bitten by stray pig
The boy was admitted to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital where he was kept under observation for a few days.
LIMPOPO – A 12-year-old boy from Midoroni village had to be hospitalised for three days after he was attacked and bitten by a stray pig.
The incident happened recently when the pig escaped from its pen in a neighbour’s yard and ended up in Ntshimane Phala’s yard.
Phala went out to chase the pig away, after which it became aggressive, he told CV.
While Phala was pursuing the animals, his son, Masilo Mabogo, ran out to assist, when the pig turned his attention to the boy.
His father pelted the pig with rocks upon which it ran off, but by this point Masilo needed urgent medical attention after he sustained injuries to his legs and thumb.
He was admitted to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital where he was kept under observation for a few days.
He is currently recovering at home, but says this was a frightening experience he is unlikely to forget.
According to Phala, Masilo was treated and is recovering well.
Phala has made a request for those living in the communities to ensure their animals are locked up, as children’s safety is non-negotiable.
“I am concerned about the children’s safety here at home. Next time something like this happens I will call in the authorities to have the animal removed.”
