Boxers fight against gender-based violence in the ring
Boxers from all over strapped on their gloves and put up their best fight against GBV to raise awareness.
LIMPOPO – The thrill of a professional boxing tournament captured Seshego residents as many of them gathered at the Ngwako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex to witness fights for a good cause.
On the evening of December 2 the International Boxing on Gender-Based Violence Tournament, organised by Limpopo Champions Boxing Promotions, was hosted and meant to raise awareness and fight the scourge of gender-based violence with the support of the Limpopo government.
MECs for Sport Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana, Economic Development Rodgers Monama and of Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba joined the momentous occasion.
The tournament’s CEO, Phathutshedzo Dongola and former boxer affectionately known as ‘Champ’ says they wish for all boxers to be ambassadors of the campaign and the event was a perfect start.
“We have since been approached by many schools around Seshego and Mankweng to start boxing clubs for them. We will be basing our education of the sport on the eradication of GBV and we are glad to say for something that was happening for the first time, it was a successful event with over 900 attendees,” Dongola adds.
