Safety, responsibility and harmony this festive season
Top local and provincial government bearers spread their messages of hope and peace this festive season to all Limpopo residents.
LIMPOPO – Various destinations across the province await visitors during the festive season and the concurrent message from top local and provincial government bearers to citizens is that of safety, responsibility and harmony.
Led by Premier Chupu Mathabatha, for the first time since 2020, South Africans celebrate the festive season without restrictions imposed on them due to Covid-19 regulations.
In hindsight to gender-based violence provincial crime statistics soaring, Mathabatha said he appreciates the collective effort made by all stakeholders to ensure that perpetrators of GBV are apprehended.
“Some cowards who call themselves men continue to abuse, kidnap, rape and kill our women and children. We have spoken for too long, and now it is the time for everyone to play his or her part to root out this pandemic. We applaud the police for being decisive in arresting perpetrators of these heinous crimes. At the same time, we give praise to our justice sector for ensuring that these criminals are prosecuted and locked up. To this cluster we say, please continue doing the good job. I wish all of you a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.”
Adding to his sentiments, Economic Development and Tourism MEC Rodgers Monama says despite the festive season being that of generosity, it is important to guard against overexcitement which can breed financial and safety risks.
“I advise all Limpopians to spend wisely in the next days. Beware of scammers, drink moderately and gamble responsibly.”
Deputy provincial police commissioner Major General Lesiba Mashilo added that police visibility has been increased on provincial roads and in residential areas, to ensure road compliance and general safety of residents.

“On December 15, we received 100 police officers straight out of the police training college. We will channel their energy to increase police visibility.”
Polokwane Mayor John Mpe during the festive lights celebration also wished residents well on their long holiday.
“Enjoy yourselves and ensure that all you do, that your safety and that of others is prioritised. The leadership of Polokwane will always put your development ahead of other things.”
