From award-winning restaurants such as Saskia and neighbourhood favourites like Nguni, to township hotspots such as Sweetphops, visitors can also explore museums, jazz clubs as well as the art galleries in the city.

POLOKWANE – The capital city of Limpopo is a vibrant place with an energetic mix of people and culture.

With much to explore, first-time visitors to Polokwane have a lot to look forward to with activites that will not only educate but also entertain visitors.

From award-winning restaurants such as Saskia and neighbourhood favourites like Nguni, to township hotspots such as Sweetphops, visitors can also explore museums, jazz clubs as well as the art galleries in the city.

Tourism practitioner Bruce Nobela from Nhlamulo Destinations offered five must-visit spots in Polokwane that first-timers should visit:

Polokwane Game Reserve

The Polokwane Game Reserve is of the biggest municipal-owned game reserves in South Africa. Its main attraction is said to be the amount of ground one can cover on foot as there are a number of walks, including a one-day 20 kilometre hiking trail with overnight accommodation.

Bakone Malapa Open Air Museum

For a fascinating look at history and culture of the bapedi culture, this museum is worth a visit because its considered as a living museum where it has cultural artifacts on display. It is designed to demonstrate the daily life of the Bakone people.

Lion Walk at the Ranch Hotel

Nobela said this is for the adventurous and can be a fun and brave thing to do just for the thrill.

The Irish House Museum

The museum contains national and modern contemporary art. “If you are an art lover you can visit the Irish House and feed your artistic side.”

Meropa Casino and Entertainment World

This is a one-stop fun arena and has a selection of slots and tables.

Nobela says the fun is not limited to these places only and that the city has many interesting places and things for people to do such as street photography, kasi cuisine and many more.
